Lake May, which is the first lake you see when you come into the Valley from route 16, is perhaps the largest lake in Carroll Valley. Walking along its banks, I wasn’t surprised to find this little guy floating along, looking like a twig. His head is deceptively small, as I managed to see the rest of it and was pretty surprised by how long and thick it was. This guy appears to be a northern water snake, but according to pa herp identification, they aren’t located in our area. Sooo… July 17, 2011
