On the outside of the Valley, to the West,  lies a stretch of Route 16 known as the Sunshine Trail. At the start of the Sunshine Trail lies a row of old cabins, that have seen better days.  Ever since I first saw those cabins, I have always wondered what they were and who they serviced.  So on my way home this morning, I stopped and shot the cabins.  And then I decided to do a little research on them.  It turns out that this was once the Red Run Lodge. They were built in 1939 as a haven for people who were making their way to Gettysburg or Virginia. The road (Now Route 16), prior to the Sunshine Trail, was a very winding and treacherous road that was subject to icing and serious snow drifts in the winter.

While researching, I also found some old photos of the old Lodge.
